Community Support Needed

 

  This week, one of the hound puppies at Lake Norman Humane began exhibiting severe symptoms consistent with parvovirus. Upon confirmation of the diagnosis, the puppy was promptly transported to a local emergency veterinary clinic. There, he received immediate and intensive care, all under continuous monitoring.

 

  Parvovirus is known to be a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, particularly in unvaccinated puppies. It primarily affects the gastrointestinal tract, leading to severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Therefore, timely intervention is crucial to improve survival rates.

 

  Encouragingly, the puppy is responding positively to the treatment and is showing promising signs of recovery.

 

  This sudden medical emergency has brought with it substantial financial burdens, with the cost of the lifesaving treatment reaching $2,900.

 

  As the dedicated staff continues to monitor this puppy and his eight littermates closely, they are reaching out to the community for support.
